Guide to Employment Law
November 2001

Message from the Firm

In light of the tragic events which took place on September 11th, this newsletter focuses on three timely issues for employers.

First, our overriding message about workplace violence is to recommend that you think about this in advance and train your senior people to recognize warning signs in your own employees. You and I are not the only ones who may worry these days about the world our children will inherit, the economy or worse things. What about those in our workplaces who are already emotionally overwhelmed or clinically unstable?

Second, many of us will have employees who are called up or volunteer for military service. Now, military leave and reemployment rights and obligations are no longer something to be left unnoticed in your Employee Handbook. Those who serve in our military have job protection rights that you need to be aware of.

Third, employees who are terminated for serious misconduct at work are not eligible for unemployment insurance benefits.

More importantly, in this difficult time, we place renewed value in the great relationships we have with our clients and friends of the Firm.
